A Talk with Preeta Samarasan

Samarasan is a multi-award-winning Malaysian writer of fiction, and non-fiction. During this talk, she reads from and discusses her first novel, Evening Is the Whole Day, which won the Hopwood Novel Award, was a finalist for the Commonwealth Writers Prize 2009, and was longlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction. 

Strange Birds host, Ashanya Lingam, and Samarasan covered a variety of other topics including the importance of writing for the ideal reader and how writers can develop an understanding of the central themes that will influence their body of work. Samarasan also shared her thoughts on indie vs. large publishing houses, and demystified some of the publishing process for the audience.
